Today I went live on the MeetMe app and had the privilege of talking literature, history and ancient archeology (including megaliths and petroglyphs) with teacher Simon Howard.
Simon actually lives in Lorna Doone country! Yes, that's right! Lorna Doone is a book that was written in the 1800s and it was based loosely on actual historic events and very real geographic landmarks that still exist in England today. Simon and I had a great time chatting all things Lorna Doone country and sharing information about the area with viewers from around the world.
While Lorna Doone is a period romance and well known work in British literature, Simon also recommended another great classic inspired by the Exmoor area viewers and I could check out. It is called Jamaica Inn and is of the mystery genre.
Simon let us know that Stonehenge is actually a bit smaller in person that it looks on tv when it comes to total area or circumference of the circle and recommended another megalithic site in England where visitors can still actually touch the stones (you can not do so at Stonehenge.) That one is called "Avebury" and he recommends tourists give it a visit! Simon even extended a kind and generous invitation to take viewers on a real life tour of Exmoor and the surrounding area should they ever visit the UK.
Other special guests on this stream included Divy who sang select songs in his beautiful voice!
Several guests did share their love for Lorna Doone Cookies during the stream and we all probably left a little hungry!
