So you've Wanted to do YouTube Videos but...

If anyone knows what it's like to wait to create video, it's me. Back in 2011, after leaving a career in public education I began work as an online 'marketing consultant and media assistant..' This was sort of like virtual assistance and the field was pretty new at the time.

Basically, I helped clients to get themselves and their work or products noticed online. All the while I hid behind the curtain myself and really forgot about what I would personally want to say or share with the world (for fun or any other reason). Who cared anyway right? (wrong!)

During that time, I was quoted in publications like Pro blogger, Digital Review, Young Fabulous & Self employed and others urging entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and others to start doing video. This was pretty embarrassing as I almost never took my own advice. To be fair, I had my reasons.

The truth is I never took my own advice because at the time (and up until around 2016 really):

1) Video editing was too hard / involved for me and the tech scared me.

2) Video editing required more involved tech than I had on hand.

3) I didn't like the way I looked on video and made the (erroneous) assumption I made that I needed to be the center of a video's attention to make a video valuable and that scared the living $%^*out me.

..I was also a little too disorganized in my own thoughts at the time to create a coherent video.

If you can relate to my story even a little bit, I have good news for you! A NEW DAY IS HERE. If you're reading this it isn't too late. It is 2020 and we have SOLID rebuttals for each of the four once arguably valid excuses above. It's the perfect time to figure out video. Here's why:

1) Today video is easy to edit professionally enough with the most common smartphones.

2)  You don't have to put yourself on video to create something fun or valuable as there are plenty of other things you can share (see example below that explains how to take your old Facebook photos and repurpose them into cohesive story-telling YouTube or Facebook ready video).

You can also now use easy, free technology like Loom to share screen recordings to create tutorials, commentary videos and more.. all with or without being on camera. ..and your audio and screen recording visuals will look great and be easy to share - no pixel rate understanding or file formatting or conversion required like there once was!

3) You don't have to be disorganized in your thoughts any longer. Just simply take your time and create an outline or story board or.. simply share a slide shows of photos to create a video of an event, trip you took somewhere, a meal you made or something else!

The possibilities are fun and endless and the technology is now likely at your fingertips. (and it if isn't write me and I will see if there is some way to get you set up!:) You're not too late at all to get started and you're not alone in starting now.

Check out my overview below of how to learn video by taking your old photo posts on facebook and turning them into a video. It's not as hard as it sounds. Here I show you how. All you need is a smartphone and a simple free editing app you can download from the App store like iMovie.
