This highlights of the day post is being posted retroactively! I've got a lot of catching up to do as it is now June 9th and I started the 'highlights of the day' note keeping on May 15th. Originally I had intended to only to post about a week out from the original date max... but life happens! No problem, I'm still committing.
There is no writing quite like writing for yourself. You don't feel pressured to do it, yet somehow it also seems easier to do. I don't really intend for anyone else to read this, though anyone is welcome to. I hope you might be inspired by the 'highlights of the day' project if you do. It's simple - almost 'embarrassingly simple,' ..but that's the point. We are trying to crush overthinking here!
I took the notes of my daily highlights in a place that was easy for me. I clicked on the 'notes' app in my iPhone and created a new note. At first, I didn't know if I would create a new note for every day / each day or if I would keep running notes in one iPhone 'notes' 'doc.' As it turns out, it was much easier to keep a running note within one individual note.
I simply just add a subtitle with the date of each day and then a list a few quick and to the point bullet points under each. To make an individual note for each day would get unnecessarily messy. Unless you're taking very detailed notes (and that may be your style) on each day, it just doesn't make sense. Here is an example of what my iPhone 'note' looks like. ..TYPOS included! Why waste time making a shorthand note doc perfect?
I must say, I thought at first that it would be daunting to take notes of highlights everyday, but as it turned out it wasn't. Literally I just got into the habit of opening the notes app when I had something I found interesting or wanted to remember and I put it in my assigned 'highlights of my day' note. I've kept this up for a month.. no problem. There was really only one day I kind of skimped out on and even on that day I was able to note 'an interesting email' I got to write that day.
On the occasion that I'm not good with writing the highlight notes exactly as or after they happen, I just try to quickly check into my notes 'doc' at the end of the day and recall and list Something, anything. I think you get the point basically of how I'm doing this.. but if not and you have any questions or need inspiration, feel free to send me a message!
Like I said, in only one case did I find that kind of hard. I still made it happen. This is probably the most consistent I have been in a long time.. and really, it's because this can be done and has to be done literally without overthinking. Overthinking is often what prevents consistency. Yes, it took me a while to figure this out and admit this to myself.
